 GDPR Statement

What is the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)?

The GDPR is due to come into force on 25th May 2018 and will apply to all businesses handling EU resident’s data. It will effectively be replacing the Data Protection Act of 1998.

It has been created to regulate how all businesses are using personal data ensuring it remains consistent across the EU.

Personal data is information about you, like your name, email address, telephone number, bank details etc.

The GDPR has a wider scope and although it is built on the principles of the Data Protection Act it has a far higher standard of consent for using different types of data and broadens individual’s rights with respect to assessing and storing their data.

GDPR will benefit you in the following ways:

1) Better Protection
Companies will have to have a high level of protection on any personal data and act suitably if something goes wrong.

2) There will be more control
There is a greater support for your data to be valued and protected. It gives you easier access to your personal information that companies hold about you.

3) Contacts
You can choose who will contact you, companies need to ask for your consent to contact you about their latest news, products, sales etc. You can control if they contact you at all but also the medium in which they make contact for example telephone, email etc.

4) Right to change your mind
You will have the right to change your mind about the choices you have made. This is intended to keep you in control of your data at all times.
